ViveveⓇ and the Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause

The average American woman starts menopause at the age of 51, though in your case, it could come sooner or later, or following surgery or cancer treatment. Hot flashes are the most common symptom, but there are plenty of others that may hit you, alone or in combination and mild or severe.

Of particular concern for some women are the effects on their sexual response and urinary system. These often happen together, so much so that they’re included in a condition called the genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM).

Whenever GSM or other menopausal symptoms start to affect your life, it’s time to visit Dr. Kochert Pain & Health in Lafayette, Indiana. Your body’s reaction to menopause is unique, so the care you receive must be personalized. Dr. Carolyn Kochert and her team are your best solution.

GSM and collagen loss

GSM results from changes to tissue in the pelvic region that occur when estrogen levels fall in your body after menopause. Fortunately though, your body retains the ability to recharge and repair this tissue, but only when stimulated into action. You can see this happen when you have a small cut. The wound scabs over, and your body makes repairs that completely conceal the original injury.

Much of the work is done below the surface of your skin, where tissues such as collagen and elastin reside. These are also present in pelvic tissue, including the walls of your vagina. While collagen levels fall with both age and loss of estrogen, your body can still replace it when stimulated. That’s where the ViveveⓇ system comes in.

Viveve and collagen induction

Your body replaces collagen tissue when it perceives an injury, so you can restore some of the vitality to vaginal tissue by tricking the body into thinking there’s a problem. This is the theory behind the Viveve system.

After we use radiofrequency energy to warm the collagen below the surface of the vaginal walls, your body treats existing tissue as though it’s been compromised. Chemical messages are sent through your body to remove the old tissue and restore it with new collagen, a process informally known as collagen induction.

It’s the same process used for many facial skin renewal techniques. The Viveve radiofrequency system warms collagen while leaving surface tissue unaffected, creating a healing response that you won’t notice, except that your GSM symptoms start to fade.

Common benefits of Viveve treatments

Viveve treatment has little-to-no downtime, and it reduces the severity of these GSM issues:
